Both cities will be represented in the NRL and AFL grand finals. Melbourne Storm plays Canterbury in the rugby league, while the Swans battle Hawthorn in the AFL decider.
But just because you live in Sydney, it doesn't mean you want the Swans to win, and it's a similar story with the Storm in Melbourne.
The Zell family from Sydney and the Pepyats from Melbourne will cross paths in the sky on Friday.

Sisters Alison and Lucy Zell, of Croydon in Sydney's inner west, are missing their grandpa's 80th birthday for the chance to see the Swans win their first flag since 2005. The Zells' younger brother Tom will take one for the family team, and attend the birthday, while Lucy is making the trip despite it interrupting her study plans for her HSC exams.

Melbourne's Pepyat family will fly north to support the Storm. It's their first live grand final and the first time Griffin, 4, and Eiley, 7, have been on a plane. Graham and Eryn Pepyat booked the flights three months ago.
''The kids are pretty rapt,'' Mr Pepyat said. ''We really wanted to come up there and give them the full experience.''
Qantas announced six extra flights with the capacity to carry 1800 more fans to and from Melbourne, while Virgin Australia announced three additional flights, which is an extra 400 seats.
It's not the first time the Swans and Storm have played in the grand finals on the same weekend. It happened in 2006, but supporters of both clubs will be hoping that's where the history repeating ends. In 2006, the Swans lost to West Coast, and Melbourne lost to Brisbane.
